Biography

Kristine Alpi, MLS, MPH, PhD (she/her/hers) serves as the Associate Dean of Libraries and Information Sciences at Mount Sinai.  Dr. Alpi joined Mount Sinai in 2022. Dr. Alpi leads the Gustave L. and Janet W. Levy Library team which educates learners and provides literature that supports Mount Sinai in scholarly activities and clinical care. She serves as Managing Editor of the Journal of Scientific Innovation in Medicine and brings her expertise in informatics to Mount Sinai’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Committee on Teaching, Learning and Discovery. 

Dr. Alpi earned her MLS at Indiana University, her MPH at Hunter College, City University of New York, and her PhD in Educational Research and Policy Analysis at North Carolina State University. Her recent informatics publications focus on consumer engagement with data from wearable devices and interprofessional involvement in informatics education. In librarianship, she convened a multi-site team to study and report on interlibrary resource sharing during the early stages of the COVID pandemic. Dr. Alpi is involved at the regional, national, and international level, having served as the President of the Medical Library Association in 2021-22 and the Chair of the Education Working Group of the American Medical Informatics Association.

Research interests

Information literacy and learning ; Consumer use of data from wearables ; health literature in languages other than English and use of translation services ; zoonotic disease and injury prevention.
