Biography
Dr. Charen specializes in dialysis quality performance, acute kidney injury, dialysis (hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis), chronic kidney disease, fluid and electrolyte disorders, hypertension, diabetes, general nephrology, and kidney transplantation. Dr. Charen is the Director of In-Patient Dialysis Mount Sinai Beth Israel. He provides oversight for hemodialysis operations and conducts quality improvement research. He is the Director of Quality Improvement for the Department of Nephrology. He is a member of the Clinical Competency Committee for the Internal Medicine Residency Program and of the Program Evaluation Committee for the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. He is the Instructor of Nephrology Simulation Laboratory Training. Dr. Charen is a consultant nephrologist as well as a preceptor for nephrology fellows within the Division of Nephrology and Hypertension. He also takes care of out-patient chronic hemodialysis patients. Dr. Charen is boarded by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine and Nephrology. He is also a member of the American Society of Nephrology. He received his medical degree from the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine and Nephrology fellowship at Mount Sinai Beth Israel.
