Elissa Gretz Friedman

Dr. Elissa Gretz Friedman is the Director of the Menopause Center in the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology, and Reproductive Science at the Mount Sinai Health System. Dr. Friedman has more than 25 years of experience in clinical practice in gynecology and in menopausal medicine and has practiced at Mount Sinai since 2002. She is a Certified Menopause Practitioner by the https://www.menopause.org/ North American Menopause Society since 2005. Dr. Friedman’s areas of interest include hot flashes, and currently she is investigating possible genetic contributions to hot flash frequency using DNA samples and data from the Study of Women Across the Nation (SWAN). This is a longitudinal study that has followed women of different races through the menopause transition for more than 13 years. Prior to joining Mount Sinai, Dr. Friedman was with Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, where her practice focused on gynecologic care for cancer patients. Much of her time was spent working with breast cancer patients who could not use hormones for treatment of menopausal symptoms. While at Memorial Sloan Kettering, Dr. Friedman published several papers focusing on the use of ultrasound in the evaluation of the endometrium. Dr. Friedman is a graduate of Vassar College and received her medical degree from the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. She completed her residency in OBGYN at New York University Medical Center.
