Biography

Deborah B. Marin, George and Marion Blumenthal Professor of Psychiatry, earned her medical degree at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. She completed a Psychiatry residency at The Mount Sinai Hospital, followed by a research fellowship at Weill Cornell Medical College. She has been a member of the Mount Sinai faculty since 1992 and is board certified in both psychiatry and neurology. She has had many roles at Mount Sinai. In the department of psychiatry, she has served as Director of the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry, Program Director of Geriatric Psychiatry Residency, Medical Director, and Vice Chair for Education. At the institutional level, she has served as Executive Vice President for Strategic Development and Chief Medical Officer. Since 2013, she has been the Director for the Center for Spirituality and Health in the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. In that role, she oversees all clinical, research, educational and community outreach activities across the departments of spiritual care in the Mount Sinai Health System. Since 2016, Dr. Marin has been the director of the Ombuds Office for the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. The Ombuds Office is a resource for conflict resolution for faculty, residents and fellows, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows, and medical students. Since 2020, Dr. Marin has also served as the Director of the Center for Stress, Resilience and Personal Growth, which is a unique program available for all healthcare workers in the Mount Sinai Health System. The Center provides resilience promoting workshops, clinical care, a psychoeducation program, and a research arm. CSRPG’s success has lead to our opening clinical services and resilience promoting activities to both patients and organizations who are not members of the MSHS.
