Biography

Dawnette Lewis, MD, MPH is maternal-fetal medicine specialist in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West. She is an experienced, caring physician, board certified in maternal-fetal medicine as well as in general obstetrics and gynecology. Her expertise spans the full range of high-risk obstetrics and all complications of pregnancy; she has particular interests in fetal evaluation and diagnosis with ultrasound, chorionic villus sampling, and amniocentesis. Dr. Lewis earned her BA degree in 1990 from Cornell University, where her entire program of study was funded by merit scholarships. She completed a master’s degree in public health in 1992 at New York University, and earned her medical doctorate at the Medical College of Ohio, in Toledo, in 1996. Her residency training in obstetrics and gynecology took place at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and she completed her fellowship in maternal-fetal medicine at Jefferson Medical College in Philadephia, in 2003. After graduation, she became a maternal-fetal medicine specialist at North Shore University Hospital; while there, she was the assistant director of the fellowship program, and also, held an assistant professorship at New York University. In 2010, Dr. Lewis became the director of Maternal-Fetal Medicine at Long Island College Hospital in Brooklyn, and in 2011, became a clinical assistant professor at SUNY Downstate Medical Center; she held these positions until joining Mount Sinai West in 2013. Dr. Lewis has a long history of providing clinical instruction and research training to residents and fellows. She has authored several peer-reviewed publications and numerous poster presentations at national meetings. She is a fellow of the New York Obstetrical Society and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and a member of the Society for Maternal-Fetal Medicine.
