Biography

Dr. Sherer is a board-certified dermatologist who has been in private practice on Long Island since 2003. Dr. Sherer received his undergraduate degree from Tufts University and attended medical school at SUNY Downstate Medical College. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology and has published over a dozen original articles in professional journals. Dr. Sherer trained at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine where he completed his residency and Dermatopharmacology fellowship. He was awarded First Prize and a grant from the National Institute of Health for his research leading to a potential treatment of a connective tissue disease called Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum. Dr. Sherer remains on staff at Mount Sinai as a Clinical Professor where he teaches both dermatology residents and medical students. In our practice, we treat all medical conditions that affect the skin, such as acne, rosacea, atopic dermatitis (eczema), psoriasis and warts. Dr. Sherer is skilled at screening for and treating skin cancers such as Basal Cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma, and the most serious form of skin cancer: Melanoma. As a dermatologist, Dr. Sherer is also an expert in treating conditions such as Herpes Zoster (Shingles), pigmentary disorders such as Melasma, and diseases of the hair and nails such as alopecia areata and onychomycosis.
