ASSISTANT PROFESSOR | Psychiatry, ASSISTANT PROFESSOR | Neuroscience
Cheen Euong Ang is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and Neuroscience. His lab is interested in developing optical imaging, spatial omics and stem cell tools to understanding cellular plasticity in the context of neurodevelopment and neurological diseases.
Prior to this, he received his B.Sc. in Chemistry from McGill University. He then completed his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from Stanford University under the supervision of Dr. Marius Wernig. During his graduate training, he developed direct neuronal reprogramming protocols and applied them to answer disease-related questions. Subsequently, Dr. Ang completed a postdoctoral research under the supervision of Dr. Xiaowei Zhuang at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. During his postdoctoral training, he applied the spatial omics technology to understand how RNA transcripts distribute within cells and developed a spatial epigenomic method to interrogate hundreds of developmentally important enhancers in intact mouse embryonic and adult brain tissue samples. He is a recipient of Bridge to Independence Award from the Simons Foundation for Autism Research.
