Biography
Dr. Correa is an Associate Professor of Surgical Oncology in the Department of Surgery at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. A distinguished expert in the diagnosis and treatment of malignancies affecting the liver, pancreas, bile ducts, and upper gastrointestinal tract, he employs a multidisciplinary approach to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care. His surgical expertise encompasses minimally invasive, robotic, and traditional open techniques, allowing him to tailor treatment strategies to the unique needs of each individual.
Dr. Correa completed his surgical residency at Indiana University in Indianapolis, followed by a prestigious fellowship in complex surgical oncology at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, with a specialized focus on hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgery. His commitment to advancing the field is evident through his research fellowships at Massachusetts General Hospital and Memorial Sloan Kettering, where he contributed extensively to the literature on the management and prognosis of upper gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary, and pancreatic cancers, as well as pre-malignant pancreatic cystic lesions. He holds dual board certifications in General Surgery and Complex Surgical Oncology from the American Board of Surgery.
At Mount Sinai, Dr. Correa serves as the surgical co-director of the Mount Sinai Pancreas Cancer Center of Excellence, a vital program dedicated to providing state-of-the-art treatment for pancreatic cancer with both efficiency and compassion. In this role, he collaborates closely with a multidisciplinary team of specialists, including pancreatic surgeons, medical and radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, pathologists, and radiologists, ensuring a seamless continuum of care from diagnosis through treatment and follow-up. His leadership in coordinating these efforts underscores his commitment to optimizing outcomes and enhancing the patient experience in the fight against pancreatic cancer.
Dr. Correa is fluent in English, Spanish, and Italian and takes great pride in the meaningful relationships he builds with his patients and their families. These connections enable him to provide culturally competent care, ensuring that patients from all backgrounds feel understood, respected, and supported.
