He has formal training and experience in public health and informatics. Dr. Atreja's clinical interests are inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, recurrent clostridium difficile infection, diarrhea, upper endoscopy, colonoscopy and fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT), also referred to as stool transplant. Dr. Atreja believes in providing culturally-sensitive, patient-centered care through education, counseling and empowerment. He is currently accepting patients from New York Metropolitan area as well as out-of state referrals for second-opinion. Awards 2013 - Performed the first fecal microbiota transplantation in Mount Sinai Medical Center Received NIH K23 award for improving quality of life and quality of care among patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease. 2011 - Nominated as Editor for Online Education at American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) 2009 - Fellow representative to American Gastroenterology Association (AGA) Editorial Board for Online Education. 2008 - Awarded fellowship (FACP ) to American College of Physicians. 2008 - Invited Presentation at Society of Healthcare Epidemiology of America (SHEA) 18th Annual Scientific Meeting, Orlando, Fl. 2006 - Awarded Distinquished poster award at AMIA Spring Meet, Phoenix, AZ 2006 - Invited Presentation at Center for Disease Control (CDC) on using electronic health records for infection control and biosurveillance, Atlanta, GA. 2005 - Awarded the best merit paper at ACP-OHIO Annual Meet, Cleveland, OH. 2005 - Nominated for the top ten papers (distinguished papers) at AMIA Annual Meet, Washinton, DC. 2000 - Recipient of National Delta Omega Awards for excellence in Public Health, Chicago, IL. 1993 - First in the State and 7th in the nation in medical entrance examination 1993 - National award for standig among the top 25 students in India selected for physics Olympiad 1991 - National Talent Search Scholarship, Govt. of India
