Benvenisty, MD graduated from Union College in Schenectady New York summa cum laude as Valedictorian with a Bachelor's degree in Biology. He attended the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University where he graduated in 1978 and then stayed for his internship and residency in General Surgery. He was selected as “super-chief” and completed his Fellowship in Vascular and Transplant Surgery. He was invited to join the staff of The Presbyterian Hospital where he served for eighteen years, and as Faculty of the College of Physicians and Surgeons, he was ultimately promoted to Professor of Clinical Surgery, the position he currently holds. Dr. Benvenisty is certified in General Surgery and holds the Certificate of Added Qualifications in Vascular Surgery with re-certifications in both fields, as well as being a Registered Vascular Technologist, (RVT). He is a member of numerous surgical societies with leadership positions, and is an immediate Past President of the New York Society for Vascular Surgery. In addition, he is an active member of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons, and is distinguished as one of a handful of Vascular Surgeons in that Society. Dr. Benvenisty has been recognized by Castle Connolly as one of New York’s and America’s Top Doctors. His work has been featured on 20/20, as well as many newspaper articles chronicling his work with patients in our area. Dr. Benvenisty is a devoted teacher of Residents and Students, and is the Director of the St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Surgical clerkship for Columbia University. In addition to his expertise in Renal Transplant Surgery, his skills include extensive experience in carotid, aneurysm and limb salvage (bypass) surgery. He is an experienced endovascular surgeon and has a particular interest in non-surgical treatment of varicose veins. He has extensive experience in non-invasive vascular diagnosis and heads the non-invasive vascular laboratory at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt.
